Hi, Becky.  Your mom&#8217;s situation was interesting because I can imagine  how difficult it must have been to raise a child on her own, and how it could have benefited her to feel like she &#8220;did not owe an28oe&#ny21; while doing so. Yes, she probably missed out on receiving support. But I am glad you recognized that this protective measure would not serve you, and that you did the hard work of unlearning it.
